Press Release: SF Pretrial Achieves National Accreditation

I am pleased to announce that SF Pretrial has been accredited by the National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies (NAPSA). By seeking and achieving accreditation, SF Pretrial has demonstrated that it meets national standards and is committed to continued excellence in the field of pretrial services.

NAPSA’s accreditation decision reflects SF Pretrial’s adherence to best practices along with our overall impact on San Francisco’s justice system. SF Pretrial’s forty-five years of experience as a community-based nonprofit has fostered a high level of effectiveness in promoting public safety, minimizing needless jail detention and providing individualized care to justice-involved people.

NAPSA is a national organization that researches and publishes best practices in the field of pretrial justice. As the only national organization with a pretrial accreditation program, NAPSA sets forth a multitude of critical standards for the field, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and operational strength. SF Pretrial joins a group of six pretrial agencies that have achieved accreditation in the past ten years. Benefits of accreditation include improved staff training and professional development, program evaluation, quality assurance, and defense against outside interests.

Our work with NAPSA’s accreditors was rigorous, requiring an extensive review of our policies and procedures. NAPSA’s assessment of our work was fortified through interviews with SF Pretrial staff and a diverse array of local partners, including criminal justice stakeholders, public health officials, and community service providers. Our partners spoke to the extensiveness of our programming, the strength of our institutional relationships, and our effectiveness as evidenced by industry-leading outcomes. I would like to thank all of those who contributed to this success, which is a testament to the health and collaborative strength of our pretrial justice system at large.

“Congratulations from the San Francisco Superior Court in receiving the well-deserved accreditation. Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication and hard work.” – Presiding Judge Samuel K. Feng

“On behalf of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, I would like to congratulate our partners at SF Pretrial for successfully completing the National Association of Pretrial Agencies accreditation. Taking the courage to analyze existing policies and procedures to align with national standards is not only an exhaustive task, but a necessary one. We applaud the Pretrial team and look forward to our continued partnership together in keeping San Francisco safe.” – Sheriff Paul Miyamoto

“SF Pretrial has been a pioneer for its compassionate and effective approach to supporting those whose lives are impacted by the criminal legal system to promote public safety, reduce unnecessary incarceration, and prevent recidivism. We are delighted that this model program, which has long played such a critical role towards promoting justice in San Francisco, has been recognized and we congratulate David Mauroff and everyone on the Pretrial team for this overdue recognition.” – District Attorney Chesa Boudin

“The Bar Association of San Francisco has been a steadfast partner in bail and pretrial reform and we join our partners in recognizing this distinguished accomplishment by the SF Pretrial Diversion Project. Their work as a community-based non-profit to promote fairness and equity in San Francisco’s justice system is critical to the success of the individuals they serve and our city’s public safety. This accreditation recognizes the value of their agency and interventions and we look forward to many more years of collaboration.” – Yolanda Jackson, Executive Director of the Bar Association of San Francisco
